July 2007
EJ Roberts Roofing Limited achieve accreditation to ISO 14001
Environmental Management. We are one of the only Roofing contractors in
the UK to have this qualification.
May 2006
Dean Skipper completes his day release BA Honours degree in Quantity
Surveying, having spent 4 years on a day release course whilst employed
at Roberts Roofing. Fellow trainee, Neil Turner has successfully passed
his second year's exams.
March 2006
EJ Roberts are awarded a contract to renew roofs throughout Hackney, in
conjunction with Main Contractor Mansell, as part of the Decent Homes
initiative
November 2005
EJ Roberts achieves a record turnover of £7.2M after a very busy year.
Notable projects included the renewal of roofs and external decorations
to 5 schools for Kensington & Chelsea, and the retiling of St Johns
Church spire in Dulwich
May 2005
EJ Roberts commence work on a £1M green roof system to Bishop Justus
School in Bromley. The roof is completed in time for the school to be
officially opened by main contractor Norwest Holst in September 2005.
July-September 2004
EJ Roberts complete re-roofing to 12 schools on time and within budget
over the intensive school summer holiday break, thus demonstrating our
commitment to meet the needs of our clients without compromising quality
of the finished product.
October 2003
EJ Roberts are awarded a contract to replace the roof coverings on the
Beaumont Estate in Leyton. This vast estate is currently the subject of
a major upgrade as it has passed into the control of London&Quadrant
Housing Trust from London Borough of Waltham Forest. Roof renewals and
associated works to 12 blocks are expected to take 30 weeks.
September 2003
EJ Roberts reaffirm their commitment to training by taking on a second
trainee quantity surveyor, Glenn Martin. He is to study on a day release
basis at Anglia University. Our other student, Dean Skipper, is now
entering hi third year of study at Greenwich University.
August 2003
EJ Roberts are appointed to carry out the roofing and leadwork to the
new Memorial Garden on Central London dedicated to those that lost their
lives on September 11th, 2001.The gardens were officially opened by the
Queen in September
June 2003
EJ Roberts are given Civic Trust Award for outstanding workmanship on a
Riverhead Infants School in Kent. The roof was an innovative
eco-friendly system.
December 2002
EJ Roberts are assessed and achieve new ISO 9002 Quality Assurance mark,
one year ahead of schedule.
July 2002
Dean Skipper becomes our graduate trainee successfully completes
his first year studies. Apprentice
asphalter Daniel Gilbert becomes fully qualified this month too. The
Company are looking to take on more apprentices.
March 2002
EJ Roberts Roofing are awarded the Mansell Contractor of the Month award
for quality and speed of contract at Harben Estate in London.
December 2001
EJ Roberts successfully pass their annual Quality Assurance surveillance
visit and are ready to upgrade to the new standard for IS) 9002 next
year.
October 2001
Director, Greg Roberts, is featured in Building Magazine (26th October)
in an in depth report on UK subcontractors
September 2001
Dean Skipper becomes our latest graduate trainee and will be studying
for a BSc Hons in Quantity Surveying on a day-release basis whilst
learning the trade.
May 2001
The Company complete their long-awaited move to 33 Skeltons Lane, Leyton
E10. We spent 6 months building our own three- storey offices,designed
specifically to meet our future needs. We had an open day to
celebrate the move, on 5th May 2001. Once again we opted to retain the
name Coppard House in memory of the late Alfred Coppard, who worked for
us between 1983 and 1997. Alf's widow, Clarissa officially opened the
building in front of 200 guests including Eddie Roberts who travelled
from Ireland to be here.
January 2001
EJ Roberts Roofing are among the first UK roofing companies to receive a
hallmark from the government sponsored Roofing Industry Alliance. We are
the only Company to be hallmarked in both flat and pitched roofing in
the UK. Mike Watkins collected our award from MP Nick Raynsford
August 2000
Emerson Bennett becomes a NIBOSH qualified health and safety officer
having attended Company sponsored courses.
December 2000
EJ Roberts retain their Quality Assurance status after a trouble-free
visit from our assessors, NQA.
April 2000
Greg Roberts resigns as Managing Director of EJ Roberts Roofing, but elects
to stay on the Board. Stephen O Flaherty becomes new Managing Director of EJ
Roberts Roofing Limited.
March 2000
EJ Roberts are awarded Balfour Beatty's Quality award for March 2000, for
works at two projects in Central London. Also this month, director Greg Roberts
has an article published in 'Building Magazine'.
February 2000
EJ Roberts collect their Investor In People Award from erstwhile football
pundit Mr Alan Hansen, at a meeting held by London East Training and Enterprise
Council (LETEC) in Stratford, E15. For
the record, Mr Hansen was professional, yet strangely uninteresting, considering
his best mates are those well known personalities Kenny Dalglish and Graham
Souness.
December 1999
At the first attempt, EJ Roberts Roofing pass the inspection necessary to be
awarded the Investor In People standard. In the same week we are visited by
National Quality Assurance who find no problems with our administration of the
quality control system. Our director, Stephen O Flaherty becomes secretary of
the Eastern region of the Institute of Roofing.
October 1999
Balfour Beatty name EJ Roberts their subcontractor of the month for a project
underway at Spouters Corner, Wood Green, in which vast areas of asphalt were
laid to meet a short program. We were also shortlisted by Balfour Beatty the
same month for TWO other contracts.
September 1999
EJ Roberts Roofing win 5 contracts for Orbit Housing Trust to renew roofs to
over 200 properties concurrently in 18 weeks. The contracts, in Bexley, are
completed on time and within program by December of 1999.
July 1999
Mr Emerson Bennett, the first product of our graduate trainee surveying
policy, passed his BSc in Surveying, which he had attended on a day release
basis, fully paid by the Company. We are proud of Emerson's achievement and hope
to continue this program with a new trainee from September 1999.
May 1999
E J Roberts Roofing Limited were officially recognised as adopting the
Investors In people standard which shows our staff that we are committed to
their well-being and personal development, and shows our customers that we are
wholly committed to quality and service. Should we be successful in our external
review in October 1999, we believe that EJ Roberts Roofing Limited will be the
first roofing company to achieve this mark.
April 1999
E J Roberts Roofing Limited were awarded a certificate in recognition of our
commitment to the Construction Skill Certification Scheme (CSCS). This award is
only given to Companies with in excess of 75% CSCS registered operatives. Our
actual percentage recorded was 93%.
March 1999
EJ Roberts Roofing Limited join ConstructionLine as a qualified Company
recognised by the construction director at the Department of Environment,
Transport, and The regions. This recognition means that we have satisfactorily
passed the standard laid down by central government to enable both private and
public clients to utilise our services, fully assured of our financial stability
and technical expertise.
EJ Roberts Roofing Limited are the sole roofing contractor invited to the
official opening of the Roofing Industry Alliance by Nick Raynsford, Minister
for London and Construction, held at the headquarters of the DETR in Victoria,
London. At this meeting, chaired by Lord Glentoran, the roofing hallmark scheme
was launched. It is part of a bigger policy to drive the cowboys out of the
building industry and give both corporate and private consumers protection by
only allowing hallmarked companies to tender for works. EJ Roberts Roofing
Limited were proud to be involved in this initiative, and to be recognised as
one of the foremost roofing companies in the United Kingdom, via our presence at
the launch.
January 1998
Directors, Mr Les Barry and Mr Stephen O Flaherty are accepted as rellows of
the Institute Of Roofing, the highest grade of professional roofing. Mr Greg
Roberts, also a director, is admitted as a member also. Along with five other
staff members of the Institute, EJ Roberts Roofing Limited can boast a fully
qualified staff.
December 1998
EJ Roberts Roofing Limited become approved contractors under the London
Boroughs Health and Safety Forum, as meeting the minimum standard for placement
on a local authority approved or applicant list.This forum is the brainchild of
the London boroughs building departments who have noticed that they all ask the
same questions of potential approved contractors. By adhering to one standard
from a central point, these boroughs can cut down on unnecessary paperwork but
not compromise their need for high quality contractors on their list. EJ Roberts
were one of the first roofing contractors to meet the criteria.
December 1997
EJ Roberts Roofing Limited becomes a Quality Assured Company to ISO 9002, via
the National Quality Assurance Company
