The Company spent its first 20 years working mainly for private and domestic clients carrying out a great many local authority grant-aided re-roofing projects By the 1980s the company began to focus on the subcontract market and began its long association with many of the top building companies. Due to the increased amount of paperwork associated with contract work, the Company became Limited on 4th October 1984. In 1986 Roberts Roofing moved to Wanstead. Work was primarily slate and tiling, with a particular tendency towards refurbishment works. We continued to work for a number of key housing associations on both a responsive and planned maintenance basis. The late 1980s saw the Company admitted to local council lists for the first time and such work has since become an integral part of our services. We joined the National Federation of Roofing Contractors in 1985. Mr EJ Roberts resigned from the board in 1990 and returned to live in Ireland. Greg Roberts took over as managing director. In 1993 the Company set up a dedicated flat roofing division. The flat roofing division provided the platform for the Company's bid for more multi-disciplined works. Roberts Roofing became renowned for taking on flat and pitched work in tandem, and carrying them out to a high standard. Roberts Roofing became members of Mastic Asphalt Council (1996), the Flat Roofing Alliance (1997), and approved by Anderson, Erisco Bauder, Langley Waterproofing, Esha, and Permanite. With each system we have been able to offer clients long term guarantees. The pitched roofing division is an approved Decra fixer. The late 1990s saw the start of an ongoing initiative to keep the Company at the top of the roofing profession via training and quality control. In 1997 EJ Roberts Roofing became Quality Assured to ISO 9002. A strategic long term staff training plan was put in place involving recruitment of asphalt apprentices and trainee quantity surveyors, as well as upgrading existing staff skill levels. In 1997 Roberts Roofing won the prestigious contractor of the month award from Mansell PLC. Our first apprentice asphalt spreader, Jay Izzett, picked up the CITB annual award for best student, and the Company directors were admitted to the Institute of Roofing. We also achieved a certificate of commendation for our successful registration of 75% of the staff to the new Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). After committing itself to Investors In people in May 1999, Roberts Roofing attained the award officially on 5th January 2000. Our acceptance into ConstructionLine in 1999 has meant that we are currently the best qualified roofing contractor in London. In January 2001, we became the only roofing contractor in the UK to receive hallmark status for flat and pitched roofing. In May 2001, we relocated to a purpose built office in Leyton, London E10. In this same year, Stephen O Flaherty became Managing Director of the business. In 2003 we were awarded a Civic Trust Award for our green roof covering to Riverhead Infants School in Sevenoaks, Kent. We also collected the prestigious ward for flat roofing project of the year from the Flat Roofing Alliance. Today Roberts Roofing turn over £7M and enjoy good relations with all our clients. We have actively developed our partnering arrangements with both the public and private sectors. We firmly believe that such close working relationships are the future of the building industry and will ultimately keep costs down and standards high. We are well placed to continue our growth into the future, but wish to upkeep our quality, in preference to further expansion. If you are looking to utilise a non-adversarial, quality roofing contractor for your forthcoming project, look no further than Roberts Roofing.
